The Sweet and Simple Squares quilt pattern PDF will take all your colorful scraps and fat quarters and turn them into a lovely quilt with a fun color-wash, gradation effect.
The Sweet and Simple Squares quilt pattern has instructions for 8 quilt sizes:
- Baby quilt: 36½” x 50″
- Small throw quilt: 54½” x 72½”
- Large throw quilt: 64½” x 80½”
- Small picnic quilt: 63½” square
- Large picnic quilt: 80½” square
- Twin quilt: 64½” x 88½”
- Queen quilt: 96½” square
- King quilt: 112½” x 96½”
The fat quarter (FQ) fabric requirements for each quilt size are as follows:
- Baby quilt: 11 FQs
- Small throw quilt: 16 FQs
- Large throw quilt: 20 FQs
- Small picnic quilt: 17 FQs
- Large picnic quilt: 25 FQs
- Twin quilt: 22 FQs
- Queen quilt: 36 FQs
- King quilt: 42 FQs
And of course, you can cut all the squares from your scrap pile if you prefer. (For instance, 88 squares for the baby quilt.)
The pattern shows you how to lay out each quilt to achieve the color gradation effect. There are also color-in sheets for each quilt size in case you’d like to test a layout of your own.
The small quilt sizes (baby, small throw, small picnic quilts) are made with 5″ squares in 3 color family groups.
The remaining, larger quilt sizes use a larger (but still FQ friendly) square size in 4 color family groups. (The bigger quilts have more area to fill, hence the extra color.)
