It’s that time of year again – quilt market time. It’s a tad too far to travel for this Australian, but thank goodness for Amy at Amy’s Creative Side who hosts the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. We can enter the contest and enjoy all the brilliant quilts without leaving the comfort of our homes (or even our pyjamas).
I’m entering my Gather ‘Round quilt in the Modern Quilting category. I expect there will be tons of gorgeous quilts in this category and I can’t wait to see them all.
This pattern sews up quite quickly, which is always nice. Of course I went and ruined that by deciding to quilt a hundred-odd lines across the design.
Truth be told, I really enjoy straight-line quilting. I don’t find it taxing at all, in fact it borders on therapeutic. I’d like to say that quilting’s cheaper than therapy, but I’m guessing it probably isn’t. :-(
The back was an exercise in impromptu piecing – I just threw together some blocks and then joined them together totem-style.
Enjoy the Festival – I’ll be back soon with another (not yet seen) entry!
Details:
Pattern: Gather ‘Round (you can find the pattern here)
Size: 60″ x 80″
Quilting: Straight-line quilting on my home machine.
Love it – especially the colours you’ve chosen. It’s an excellent graphic design!!
So clean and simple looking. It’s a beautiful quilt.
Gosh, I love this. It is so striking and simple and modern. And then you turn it over, and the back is amazing as well! Really spectacular. What grey solid fabric did you use? I’m really liking it and always looking for a good light-medium grey.
Love this quilt Kirsty. Good luck with the festival :)
Love the design and the quilting. The backing is beautiful too.
Altogether I’m thinking it would be a great quilt for my sister’s teenage grandson – not too much piecing and not too many colors!
I love the geometric nature of this quilt and the pop the little bits of red give.
Beautiful! You have some patience for all that straight line quilting!
What a great idea! I love your modern quilt. It’s beautiful design, great fabrics and quilting .

The quilting (plus the quilt design) totally makes this read like a pendleton blanket. That, and the colors too I think. I love the simplicity and beauty.
Love the pattern. Great color choice.
You have captured that Southwest look. Love it. The back looks like a totem to me. Great job.
This is awesome. I love straight line quilting too! The back lends itself perfectly to the front. Well done
definitely a very original design! I think I like the back almost as much as the front.
I think the straight line quilting is perfect! This is a wonderful quilt – and it would be perfect for a man! Those are often hard to find!
