Quilts, Cats and Crocs, Oh My!

Hello, and welcome to a Sunday update with Bonjour Quilts!

A New Blog Post

Not much sewing around here at the moment, but I published a new post on my visit to Australia Zoo during the last school holidays. Plenty of animal photos (koalas!!). Pop over and have a read!

Around the Interwebs…

Amy has a great tutorial for making your own portable pressing table. Great for tight spots or to take on a retreat.

Another tutorial blogpost where Debbie shows how she matches her quilt binding to the adjacent quilt top fabric. A fun, modern look.

If you’re looking for a fun quilt along, check out Yvonne’s beautiful Effervescence quilt.

The latest issue of the digital quilting magazine, Make Modern, is now live!

Loving this magical embroidery, as well as these pretty art pieces.

The science of hugs is real and very important, y’all!

Reader Quilts…

I always love to see quilts you’ve made from Bonjour Quilts patterns so please keep sending them in! Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram. Here are some oldies, but goodies.

Always a favourite, here’s a navy and white Diamonds in the Deep quilt. Jan sent me this photo of her guild’s great effort with this one.

Peggy also made a Diamonds in Deep, with the light and dark fabrics inverted. I really like the effect that swapping the fabric placement makes in this design.

And then we have this colourful beauty by Lisa. Her version of the When You Wish… baby mat includes borders and some stippling interspersed with stars – perfectly on theme. Love the scrappy binding, too.

Another fun adaption of a Bonjour Quilts tutorial. This uplifting quilt was sewn with the Meadow quilt tutorial in mind, by a creative group of Massachusetts quilters.

Dorrie made this fantastically festive version of the Candy Christmas mini quilt (look at that amazing star!). I think this pattern really suits being embellished to the nines.

Chez Bonjour…

It’s been the usual business of busy-ness here at Chez Bonjour. Lots of school and uni exams for the kids, and several gardening projects as we get ready for summer.

Plenty of great walks out in nature:

And on the beautiful Sunshine Coast:

It’s always nice to come home to these two critters:

Orange Burmese cat in window, sitting on window ledge in front of a flower pot
A brown Burmese cat in front of a rack of sewing thread spools. Sitting on a mini quilt.

Have a great weekend

It’s been a doozy of a fortnight, that’s for sure. Hope you’re finding some time to rest and reset. Some mindful sewing could be just the thing!

Until next time,

Kirsty x

  2. Hi Kirsty! I do enjoy your blogs very much. I have let a few posts pass me by because, at age 78, I find myself unexpectedly in the role of caregiver, so I don’t always have a chance to click on everything I receive on email. I did click through today, so I’m hoping to receive future emails. Love your cats!

  3. At 81 Years of age, I don’t buy much new (my quilting studio is 24 feet by 24 feet and bursting at the seams) I am giving a lot to starting quiliters, Quilts of Valor and friends but the room is still bursting at the seams…. I used to get lots done, even while married to the love of my life (died 10 years ago), having two sons and working full time! I am healthy but crippled by arthritis now. If it does not mess up your emails and other postings, I would love to keep receiving the e-mails. Diamonds in the Deep is a favorite…the fabric is chosen if I can get my body moving…it is on the top of my to do list!

    • When You Wish… is such a good one for a quick, bright quilt. I’m glad you’ve given it a good workout! Hope you’re staying warm and I’ll try to keep including some sunny photos as we head into our Aussie summer.

  5. Love your newsletters, always full of great stuff and it’s so fascinating to me (an American) to see everyday life in Australia. Zoo pics are awesome! And I never get tired of the cats, you could just post a hundred pictures of them LOL

    • Ha, the cats would be so annoyed with me if I did that. Sometimes they turn their faces away when I lift the camera up to my face. Cheeky!

  6. Wow! What a chock full of great stuff. (Not that you don’t usually do a great job, but this one is eclectic). And thank you for sharing that link to make a tv table ironing board…I’m definitely going to do that! I have a tabletop one but I like being able to keep the iron away from the table. All the beautiful pictures, you are so blessed to live in Australia. Thanks Kirsty!
