Welcome back to Bonjour Quilts! It’s time for another weekend update so please read on for all the news.
What I’m Sewing…
I’m about to start a new quilt, as requested by my daughter. Sage green is all the rage at the moment, which is great because it’s currently her favourite bedding colour.
I have received the very cute backing (little chicklets) and one of my fabrics in the mail already.
The other package which contains the other 7 yards seems to be a little bit lost, unfortunately. I’ve been checking my tracking number for 3 weeks now with no change. I get to file a ‘please help’ request once 30 days have past – here’s hoping it turns up before then!
Around the Interwebs…
Fat Quarter Shop has all Magic Dot by Moda Fabrics on sale for November. A very versatile basic.
Yvonne has a great autumn leaf quilt block (with a placemat option, too) over on her blog.
Oh my goodness, how cute is this stop-motion video? Very, my friends, very.
Some stunning textile art.
An unusual choice of medium but fantastic art nonetheless.
Imagine drawing with a typewriter. Such patience!
Always a great mood booster, here are the Wildlife Photo Comedy Award finalists.
Reader Quilts…
I always love to see quilts you’ve made from Bonjour Quilts patterns so please keep sending them in! Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram.
Let’s dive back into the archives to find some scrappy projects. After all, last weekend was International Scrap Sorting Day (not that we need a reason to love on scraps, let’s be honest!)
First up is this glowing Diamonds in the Deep quilt pattern sewn by Kristi in scrappy blues gorgeous contrasting warm fabrics. A very bright, happy quilt.
Dawn’s scrappy version of Diamonds in the Deep mixes buttercup yellows with pretty greys:
The Scrap Magnet quilt pattern was designed with your scrap pile in mind. Alison has sewn hers in an extra large 5 x 5 configuration – a real scrap buster.
Beth shows how good Scrap Magnet looks with a dark background as well:
A Scrappy Lattice quilt is always a great choice to reduce your scrap pile. You can use up lots of low-volume scraps for sashing, with a single colour (like Janet‘s version here with green).
Or you could use a rainbow of scraps with a single sashing fabric to bring it all together, like Page:
Or this rainbow version (found on Pinterest, sadly with no citation):
And no one does “gorgeous scrap explosion” like Cheryl does. She makes this Scrappy Lattice quilt look like a beautiful stained glass window.
The Window Panes quilt pattern is another good quilt pattern for chewing up scrappy strips. Here’s a lovely scrappy floral version sewn by Maureen:
Chelsea used up her brown scraps (someone obviously likes it):
And I used up my teal green scraps for my version:
Happy scrappy sewing!
Chez Bonjour…
We have been living here on the Sunshine Coast (Queensland, Australia) for 11 years, but we still stumble across amazing places we’ve never heard of before.
When we attended a Native Bee lecture at a nursery a couple of months ago (photos of bees in this post), the lecturer told us about his local eatery/pub and it sounded really good. We decided to have an outing there ourselves and we heartily agree it is fantastic.
The venue is called The Doonan (located in the town of Doonan) and it has such a wonderful setting.
There’s bushland out the back:
With some chickens:
And the whole (mainly outdoor) venue is filled to the gills with beautiful plants. It’s absolutely gorgeous. (There’s also a great playground area for kids.)
I’m happy to report that the food is great, too. Everything we tried was delightful (I had a wood-fired pizza and it was delish).
Here are some more gratuitous shots of the greenery, for which their gardeners should be applauded:
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Sunshine Coast area.
Cats’ Corner
Lots of sleeping this week. Like last week. Like all of the weeks. Such is a cat’s life!
Lulu (brown) did have a bit of an adventure the other day. We all went to bed one night and then our youngest heard scratching at the door at 4am. At first he thought a possum was trying to get in the house. He opened the front door to have a look and outside, scratching on the screen door, was Lulu!
Our son checked her over and she was okay, but we still have no idea who accidentally let her out or how long she was out there. Goodness only knows what a cheeky little cat like her got up to. Maybe she just sat in our flower bed the whole time. I’m just glad she had the sense to come in when she was done!
Have a great weekend
That’s it from me for now. I hope you’re keeping well – cross your fingers for my missing fabric parcel and don’t forget to find some time for crafting/sewing this weekend.
Take care,
Kirsty x
Kirsty, love all the pictures as usual. Cats: “We work hard for the money (shot)”.
We have 2 that think sleeping is a full time job.
God bless.
