Quilt Interrupted, Links to Read, Your Quilt Photos and Sleepy Cats

Hello, hello friends! Welcome to the weekend update with Bonjour Quilts. Plenty to read and lots of photos to scroll through, so find a comfy spot, a refreshing drink and read on!

Still Trying to Finish This Quilt…

My poor old Log Cabin Ribbons quilt. I don’t seem to be making much progress with this one. Life has been busy (more on that down below in the Chez Bonjour section) so not a lot of sewing time.

But this is a great pattern for when you’re a little distracted – it doesn’t have any super-technical requirements. No triangle-point matching to worry about, and the units are oversized when sewn with a scant seam so they can be trimmed back to give an exact block.

I will keep plugging away and will hopefully have it done in time for a Black Friday sale. Or maybe a “The Week After Black Friday” sale. Phew.

Around the Interwebs…

A fun tutorial on Diary of A Quilter for a patchwork basketball hoop. Very clever! You could sew up a patchwork ball, too, for QUIET indoor basketball.

Connecting Threads has a fantastic 30% off everything on their site, using the code 11BLACKFRIDAY25.

Issue 67 of the popular e-magazine Make Modern is now available for download!

I can’t remember if I shared the 2025 QuiltCon Winners Gallery already?

Wildflower Photographer of the Year – these photos will lower your blood pressure considerably.

A collection of these handmade ceramics would be so cute.

Paper craft fascinates me (3 dimensions, no seams required!) so I loved these intricate animals, these dreamy forms, gorgeous colours, and this stunning snake.

Reader Quilts…

I always love to see quilts you’ve made from Bonjour Quilts patterns so please keep sending them in! Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram.

Tracy made three amazing I-spy quilts with the Scrappy Lattice pattern. Here’s a close up of the one she made in red with loads of fussy cut fabrics to spy!

This I-spy quilt would make a great writing prompt too. Tell the kids ‘no screen time until you write me a 300 word story involving 5 of the things on this quilt’. You’d get a creative and different story every time.

Birch Fabrics used a Charley Harper fabric line to mock up my Go West quilt pattern.

Birch Fabrics also sewed up a small section of the design to make a table runner – great idea!

Tracy sewed up a lovely Diamonds in the Deep quilt in a navy print and white.

Bianca’s wonderful colour choices really make this Kaleidoscope quilt pattern pop!

Chez Bonjour

Last weekend the mister and I took a quick trip to Melbourne. We had a great time, walked a lot of kilometres and ate a little too well.

Fun floor tiles, probably old, seen in Melbourne Australia.

I really love the old (for Australia) architecture in the city. I also love how many large trees have been preserved right in the centre of the city, it gives the CBD character.

Lovely old 1800s buildings in Melbourne, Australia, on a sunny Spring day, with leafy trees on the streets. Wonderful vintage architecture!

Here are a few photos I took on our many walks.

It wouldn’t be Melbourne if it didn’t rain on us a bit.

Fun floor tiles, probably old, seen in Melbourne Australia. They've seen better days, as they are on an outdoor step, but they are still faded beauties.

We found a couple of city laneways with artwork as well (you can do a tour of them, if you enjoy this sort of thing).

Cats’ Corner…

These cats. Boy they can sleep. They’ve migrated from the grey cat bed to the armchair near the Christmas tree where I’ve put a festive red Diamonds in the Deep quilt.

Firstly, I think I’ve isolated which cat attacked my windowsill Christmas gnome stuffies last week. Hmm, very suspicious behaviour:

Lulu the brown Burmese cat attempts to attack my Christmas stuffed toy gnomes. She was thwarted in her actions and distracted with some chin scratches.
Oh Lulu, why???!!

Other than that, it’s been a lot of sleeping:

And maybe a figure-four leg-lock wrestling move every now and then!

He doesn’t seem concerned

Have a great weekend, folks!

Hope you all have a great weekend, and perhaps indulge yourself with some sewing time. You deserve it, and a little creativity can really brighten your day. It’s a brilliant distraction, too!

I’ll talk to you all again soon, but until then,

Kirsty x

  1. I find tile patterns fascinating. I especially like the Coral and Dusty Rose Pink one you have shown. I’d love to convert some of them into fabric. Sooo tempting !

  2. My son and his wife just took their family to Melbourne- his wife’s family is from Australia so they wanted their girls to see that part of the world. 20
Hours of flying but the kids did great – I would have jumped off the plane.
They LOVED it- they also went to Sidney and Cairns. It was a great experience for them. They came home saying they could see relocating to Melbourne at which I lost all sense of pride and begged them not to. What can I say?? They are my kids!!
    Lovely post Kirsty!

    • I’m so glad they had a lovely time in Australia, Bernie. I totally understand your reaction, I’d be the same. No one wants their baby (along with their own babies) moving overseas! It’s a long way from here to the US x

  3. I love the photos from Melbourne showing the architecture and patterns that caught your eye. I visited there years ago and loved it. It’s where I first had a flat white, which was my coffee of choice for years. I was delighted to be able to get it here in the States, though of course it wasn’t quite the same!

  4. I just love your blog! I live it all – your articles, your family life, and, of course, the cats! I look forward to receiving it each week. I know you may not have an official Thanksgiving Day there, but if you do celebrate, enjoy your holiday, as I will be celebrating with part of my family. 🦃🍗
