‘Twas the week before Halloween…

We’re trying to get in the spooky spirit here at Chez Bonjour:

I sewed up a Halloween dress (for me):

A handmade Ruby dress, pattern by Rae Hoekstra. This is a Halloween version with black netting yoke and a novelty print for the main dress.

This is Rae’s Ruby Dress pattern, which I made with a flocked/netting yoke and a novelty Halloween cotton fabric I picked up at my local Spotlight. (Spotlight is Australia and NZ’s version of Joann’s.) I sewed this one fast-n-furious so don’t look too closely at anything. It’s definitely good enough for a dress I will probably only wear twice.

I picked up a bat wing headband on sale (oh yeah) to round out my look. The only decision I need to make now is whether I paint my nails putrid purple or chilling charcoal. Lulu said she likes the purple.

Halloween costume accessories: purple and charcoal nail polish and a bat wing headband. Cat sold separately.

The cats got a (brief) Halloween glow up too with some little costumes I picked up when I bought my headband.

Tigger was quite curious when Lulu put hers on. But once he had his costume on he found the whole thing rather weird.

They both froze and looked rather uncomfortable, so it didn’t seem kind to put them through a long photo shoot.

I guess that’s all the Halloween the cats will be participating in this year!

Throwback to Halloween 2023, when Tigger was such an angel :)

And Lulu was…Lulu. She flopped in protest.

Kirsty from Bonjour Quilts with the 2025 Patchwork Calendar.

This calendar would make a wonderful holiday gift for any quilter you know (including yourself!)

All The Triangles quilt pattern by Kirsty at Bonjour Quilts. This is the square throw size sewn in teal navy, fuchsia and low volume fabrics. This pattern has instructions for baby, square throw and rectangular throw sizes.
My All The Triangles quilt pattern features in July.

But be quick – it’s all over at midnight on Sunday, 27 October.  All the details are here.

Wishing you all a haunting week…

It’s going to be a spooky week. Even if you don’t care for Halloween, the fact that Christmas is only 8 weeks away is sure to strike fear into your heart. So many things to do, ha ha ha, sob! (I want to buy a new tree this year, so I should probably get a move on with that.) I don’t know how you North Americans handle squeezing a Thanksgiving holiday in around this time too – you’re organisational legends.

Have a great weekend and I hope you find some sewing time for yourself. Creativity shakes out all the evil spirits!

Take care, until next time,

Kirsty x

  1. They have become purfectly crabby with age… yet still so adorable! Thank you for the dress up pics . Always get a good smile from the kitties

    • They were a bit stroppy, that’s for sure Rosalie. The tricky part is getting the outfit on – as long as they don’t pop their claws out it’s all okay :)

  2. Always great to see what’s going on at your end of the globe! The Kitties ADORABLE as always and love the dress. Clever to use the open weave! Sadly it’s getting colder and we may have freezing temps for our little treaters! That’s okay – I can help eat the candy!

    • I think they actually were – and I think they were annoyed that we found them so amusing. I also think the head covering might be the part they didn’t like the most, which I can understand. It can be off-throwing to have your hearing muffled.

  3. Thanks for the chuckles, I love the looks on the poor kitties faces especially compared from ‘24 to ‘23. 👻🎃☠️ Happy Halloween from a sunny but chilly morning in Sacramento.
