My New Navy Quilt and the 2025 Patchwork Calendar!

Hello, hello – welcome back to Bonjour Quilts for a weekend update. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the read!

What I’m Sewing…

I finished up my square throw sized version of my All The Triangles quilt pattern.

All The Triangles quilt pattern being sewn up in navy, fuchsia and low volume fabrics. Columns are being supervised by our orange Burmese cat.

I’m so happy with it! I used a mix of fat quarters in fuchsia and low-volumes for all the triangles, and a lovely navy teal background fabric. All the fabric is Ruby Star Society and they really work so well together.

I didn’t have any quilt holders around this week (well, not at the times when the outside light was good). But I think you get the gist of it from these photos.

Organic, wavy quilting on my All The Triangles square throw quilt. Quilted on my domestic machine in grey thread.

I quilted this one with wavy lines and the binding is more of the navy teal fabric. (I did consider a fuchsia binding but wanted the triangles to pop, so went with a more “edgeless” look.)

A rolled up, basted quilt ready to be quilted. This is the square throw size of the All The Triangles quilt by Bonjour Quilts. In fuchsia, white and teal navy.

For my next one I think I’d like to try scrappy. I printed out the colour-in diagram that comes with the pattern and mapped out a rainbow colour order. Scrappy does take a lot longer to sew (no economies of cutting, unlike stacking FQs) so I’m not sure if I want to start this one straight away. I feel like I should get back to those Bear Paw blocks I started the other month.

This is the diagram for the square throw but I might actually make the rectangular throw. Initially I was going to use the navy teal for the background but I think I’ll go with a low volume instead. That way I can use all my blue family of scraps as they will stand out nicely (they would blend in if I used a navy background). Who knows what else I’ll decide to change before I sew it – I’ll let you know as it happens!

But if you’d like to sew a baby, square throw or rectangular throw sized version of All The Triangles, it’s currently part of the 2025 Patchwork Calendar bundle. What’s that you ask? Well….

Patchwork Calendar 2025

If you missed the last newsletter, don’t miss this pattern designer collaborative Patchwork Calendar.

This is an actual, physical paper wall calendar, with a different quilt shown for each month. You can have the calendar in either A4 (US letter) or A3 (Ledger) size this year (I LOVE the larger size option). And of course, you get the PDF patterns for all the quilts shown in the calendar. So another opportunity to pick up a completely different bundle of quilt patterns. Available October 2024.

The 2025 Patchwork Calendar is a physical, paper calendar that comes with PDF quilt patterns for all of the 12 projects shown within.

You can order your Calendar in A4 (Letter) or A3 (Ledger) size, and it will be printed on demand, close to your location (quicker postage time). The PDF quilt patterns will be available for you to download immediately after purchase.

My All The Triangles quilt pattern is my contribution to the pattern bundle, and it features as the photo for the month of July.

You can read all about the Patchwork Calendar 2025 and find out more information on all the included quilt patterns (including the quilt sizes) in this blog post.

Around the Interwebs…

Hard to believe the elections in the US are almost here. Do you remember my Vote Mini Quilt Tutorial? A great way to encourage those around you to get down to the polls.

For those who live in/near Texas, the International Quilt Festival will be held in Houston Oct 31-Nov 3, 2024. Here’s a rundown of all the winning quilts from 2023. Very inspiring!

I don’t crochet but this account is a delight and the colour palettes are lovely.

Some beautiful paper collages, adorable embroidered felt Christmas decorations, gorgeous inspiration for sewing with scraps.

Off topic (but so much fun), here are the Finalists for the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. (If you click on the first photo you can scroll through the gallery at full size.)

Chez Bonjour…

Nothing much to report – lots of sewing and school events as we approach the end of the school year here in Australia. Found some time for some coastal walks though. Ahhhh:

  1. LOVE your quilts!!!!!! And that teal color is beyond gorgeous; it’s one of my favorites. Love your cats too, they are particularly beautiful. We are animal lovers, having two much-loved ‘mutt’ cats, a male tiger and a female calico – both very loving, plus one big super-affectionate pit bull who loves the cats and everybody she meets. If she’s eating and someone comes to the door, she’ll actually LEAVE her food and run to the door to “say”: ‘Hi! I love you; let me show you where the valuables are!” A guard dog she’s not. (But she’s a great bed-warmer!)

  2. I made the “Vote” project in 2020 and it is hanging (in my front window) again…lots of neighborhood comments, all positive!

  3. Kirsty I love the teal/pink quilt! Gorgeous. You made a comment about ‘low volumns’, what does that mean? I have had very little time to sew here, since I’m gearing up for my jewelry sales this fall. This is my big earning time and my hands have been busy creating. Its a good problem to have! And oh, I love the sweet kitty photos. God bless you.

    • Hi Rosalie, low volumes refers to fabrics that have a pattern on them but “read” as a white/light fabric. Something like grey/black linework on a white background, or small prints on a light background. Even though it’s not purely white/light, it appears as such when paired with darker fabrics. If you look at all the light fabrics in my quilt, you’ll see they have a pattern on them, but overall they seem white when compared to the teal/fuchsia. They should more accurately be called low value, rather than low volume, but for some reason the latter is the name that the industry uses. Hope that makes sense!

    • They are, Janet, but they are usually running around or doing other things that are tricky to photograph. Sometimes there’s a small window between them sitting down and falling asleep and I’m able to catch them with eyes open. They actually don’t like having their photo taken and will turn away from cameras/phones quite often. How rude!

  4. As our temps drop, I fall in love with your quilts once again. The quilt are really gorgeous. The colors are so unique! The Go West has my vote for this week’s pattern. Even though the VOTE one is wonderful, it’s a pretty shaky topic around here! Think I’ll join the kitties in their “Think Tank” aka NAP.
