Your Beautiful Quilts and Fun Links to Read This Weekend

Hello, hello – welcome back to Bonjour Quilts for another weekend update. Let’s get this show on the road!

If you’re new to the blog and would like to be notified of new posts, tutorials and patterns here at Bonjour Quilts, then pop your details in the boxes below:

    What I’m Sewing…

I’ve been working on my navy, fuchsia and low volume quilt – more blocks are coming to life.

Patchwork blocks in navy, fuchsia, and white for a triangle modern patchwork quilt pattern.

This one fits together in columns, so I look forward to being at the stage when they’re ready to come together.

No time for any more Bottomless Bear Paws quilt blocks this week. We are in the middle of the school holidays here so I’m putting in a lot of mum-time, which is wonderful. We all enjoy having more time together and less structure in our days.

Bear Paw quilt blocks made from the Bottomless Bear Paws quilt pattern by Bonjour Quilts. These scrappy blocks in green, blue and aqua will be the basis of a new quilt. The centre of the blocks has the option for a small heart or a simple square paw pad.

    What’s coming up…

I thought I’d give you a heads-up about two fun pattern bundles I’m contributing to in October.

First up is a bundle put together by the talented ladies at Curated Pattern Bundles. The theme for this bundle is Fat Quarter Frenzy and it’ll have a lovely range of FQ friendly patterns from 13 different quilt pattern designers. A great way to bulk up your PDF pattern library!

Fat Quarter Frenzy pattern bundle curated by Curated Pattern Bundles, will be 13 amazing fat quarter friendly PDF quilt patterns. Available in October 2024.

The second bundle is coordinated by a fellow Aussie, Nic, of Craftapalooza. You might recall I participated in a Patchwork Calendar for 2023. Well, I’m back in for the 2025 calendar! This is an actual, physical paper wall calendar, with a different quilt shown for each month. You can have the calendar in either A4 (US letter) or A3 (Ledger) size this year (I LOVE the larger size option). And of course, you get the PDF patterns for all the quilts shown in the calendar. So another opportunity to pick up a completely different bundle of quilt patterns.

These are both great value options, so keep your eyes peeled in October for all the details on both bundles. And if you’re not getting my newsletter – make sure you sign up so you don’t miss any of the notifications.

    Around the Interwebs…

I enjoyed browsing this photo gallery of the 2024 Australasian Quilt Convention Challenge Finalists. (If you hover over the smaller detail photos at the bottom of the page they show the whole quilt.)

The Modern Quilt Guild is still accepting quilt entries for QuiltCon 2025 – you can find all the submission details here.

If you love sketching out designs by hand then you’ll love these free Graph Paper Printables that the Quilter’s Planner has released. And not just squares!

So much beautiful embroidery popping up all around me – I love these stitches in Seattle, this Japanese artist, these natural wonders and these delightful patchwork with stitching.

This very clever street artist has some fun prints of his work in his online store. I love the way he looks at things!

My favourite digital quilting magazine, Make Modern, has Issue 60 available now. At 6 issues a year, this issue marks 10 years of Make Modern!

Make Modern Magazine issue 60 is now available for your reading pleasure. September 2024.

This last link has absolutely nothing to do with quilting but my 13 year old sent me a little video he found (he knows I love wholesome content!). It’s quick, silly and hand-drawn and I hope it makes you smile too.

    Reader Quilts…

I always love to see quilts you’ve made from Bonjour Quilts patterns so please keep sending them in! Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram.

Marcy sent me photos of 2 quilts she recently made, as she has twin grandsons coming soon. Happy days! The first one is this lovely Scrappy Posie baby quilt. I love the bright and cheerful fabrics, and especially love the change in direction of the chevron fabric background squares. It really makes the posie pop.

Marcy’s second quilt was made following the Wildwood Baby Quilt tutorial. Another bright and happy addition to the nursery.

Check out Eileen’s version of the Adori Quilt Block, for a collaborative quilt being made as a gift. The recipient loves yellow, green and paisley – I think Eileen nailed this one!

I love Mary Lynn’s Hello Hearts! quilt, with a peach (or coral?) background and low volume hearts. The back sports an upsized heart block that Mary Lynn whipped up and the quilting design ties it all together beautifully.

    Chez Bonjour…

The school holidays have arrived, the sun is out and lots of Australian tourists are here in our neck of the woods. Can’t blame them really, when the beaches are looking so lovely. Shoulder-season Sunshine Coast is wonderful!

Alexandra Headland beach with coffee rock and a soft pink sunrise.
A sandy path leading to a beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia beach, at Mooloolaba.
Maroochydore beach on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, at sunset. Waves hug the beach with pale orange skies in the background.

    Cats’ Corner…

And finally, Tigger (orange) and Lulu (brown), our Burmese cats, send their love.

They’ve been napping like champions and tolerating loads of hugs and kisses when they’re awake. It’s a tough life. Here’s Lulu asleep on my mini Mac hard drive, which is always nice and warm when the computer’s on.

Lulu, the brown Burmese, sleeping on my Apple Mini Mac because it's nice and warm. Especially when I'm running Photoshop.

Here’s Tigger napping on my queen sized Anna Maria Parry (formerly Horner) fabric quilt. You can see more about this quilt (and measurements to sew your own) in this blog post. Anna Maria has recently married (to an Aussie, clever lady :) and I look forward to her upcoming 2025 collections through her new company Anna Maria Textiles.

    Goodnight, l’il kitty cats.

    Have a great weekend!

That’s it from me for today, folks. I hope you’ve got as much sunshine where you are as we do here. Don’t forget to take a moment to enjoy some sewing, whether on your machine or by hand. You’ll feel better for it, and you deserve that time!

    Until next time,

    Kirsty x

      1. We have lots of water here too – RAIN cold nasty fall rain. My pup stuck her nose out and said No I’ll wait till it turns to snow!
LOVE LOVE LOVE all the show quilts!!!! Amazing creative minds. Thanks for the inspirations (including napping like a cat – they are really pros! )
        Thanks!

        • Yes, cold rain is very different from summer rain. No fun at all. Your pup has the right idea, snow sounds like much more fun, although I hope you don’t get snow too soon! Funny to think of you looking down the barrel of snow as things are getting rather warm over here!
