Finally, the Log Cabin Ribbons Quilt Pattern!

Hello, hello and welcome to the weekend update from Bonjour Quilts. Read on for all the news!

The Log Cabin Ribbons Quilt Pattern

If you’re on my email list you’ll already know that my Log Cabin Ribbons quilt pattern is finally listed in my shop.

Scrappy Log Cabin Ribbons quilt by Bonjour Quilts. A PDF quilt pattern with instructions for 5 quilt sizes: baby, throw, twin, queen and king. Use up your scraps, jelly rolls, F8s and FQs in this fun modern quilt pattern.

This pattern is a scrap and FQ buster – but it’s also great for jelly roll strips, F8s and other remnants.

Straight line quilting my scrappy Log Cabin Ribbons quilt. PDF quilt pattern can be found at Bonjour Quilts.

The pattern has instructions for baby, throw, twin, queen and king sizes. The baby quilt blocks are smaller and use narrower strips. The throw, twin, queen and king quilts have larger blocks that utilise jelly roll size strips. Hopefully that will give you some options depending of the types of scraps you have available. Of course, if you have FQs then the cutting instructions will show you what to do there.

An interesting thing I discovered about this quilt pattern is that the baby and throw sizes both have an alternate layout. By rearranging the blocks, you can form a completely different quilt. No additional sewing/fabric required. This is what the alternate layout looks like:

The 'coins' version of the baby size quilt of the Log Cabin Ribbons quilt pattern. This is the alternate layout for the baby size quilt (also works for the throw size). Pattern by Bonjour Quilts.

This alternate layout only works for the baby and throw sizes. It’s fun to sew up all the blocks and then audition both layouts. The one you like the most you can sew together.

The Log Cabin Ribbons quilt pattern, like ALL my patterns, is 25% off for the next two days. So make sure you grab a copy of it, and any other pattern that catches your eye, using the code RIBBONS.

Around the Interwebs…

Let’s read some things that make us feel good and offer a distraction from the hellscape we’re currently living in.

It’s always satisfying to save seemingly no-longer-useful things from the rubbish bin – this team is doing it with sewing needles.

The new Quilt!Knit!Stitch! Show will debut in April in Missouri, USA this year.

A beautiful art installation with quilting at the heart. I love how these look against the snow.

Such an adorable use for crochet which is making the world a better place, one octopus at a time.

Oh how I love the whimsy of a stop-motion video – especially when it involves crafting.

Connecting Threads has a $5, $7, $9 sale on now. The Fat Quarter Shop has some very useful basics 20% off for the month of February.

Animals are just the best and so good at reducing cortisol levels. Here’s a cute use for old Wimbeldon tennis balls. I’m Australian and I’ve never seen a playpus in the wild – it remains one of my life goals! Gosh this birdcam highlights reel for 2025 is a joy to watch.

Reader Quilts…

Everyone’s favourite – reader quilts! If you’ve made something from Bonjour Quilts patterns please send a photo in. Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram.

Vicki shared her bright and beautiful When You Wish…baby quilt. You can find a free tutorial for this baby size here on the blog, or a paid pattern for the larger sizes here in the shop (remember to use RIBBONS to get 25% off).

Terri’s version of the Window Panes quilt pattern is cool and classy in tones of blue.

Terri has also sewn up this fun baby quilt using this blog post as a guide.

I love Sylvie’s Go West quilt in subdued fabrics (very Valentine’s appropriate, actually).

Sylvie sewed this romantic version of the Go West Quilt Pattern by Bonjour Quilts in grey, peach, apricot and bold red fabrics.

I pulled out our Go West quilt over the holidays to use under an indoor game of giant Jenga. We normally play outside on the grass but it was raining that night so we used a quilt. It was great both to save our knees as we coaxed the blocks out and to soften the fall when the tower eventually toppled.

I found some gorgeous examples of Diamonds in the Deep on Pinterest the other day. Ann has sewn these two beauties:

And here are another two examples where different fabric has been used for the centre squares. One quilt has all the centres matching in turquoise, the other has cheery rainbow centres.

Chez Bonjour

We went to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo last night in Brisbane and it was such a great night. It was so nice to remember what can come about when we humans work together to make good things!

Another stress-relieving activity that I like to do at least once a week is take a long walk along our local beach. Very therapeutic.

Cats’ Corner…

My final mood-raising offering is some photos of our two Burmese cats Tigger (orange) and Lulu (brown) for all the cat lovers out there.

They recently had to have some teeth removed (despite me brushing their teeth every night with a baby toothbrush – true story) but they’ve bounced back very quickly. And added bonus, their breath no longer smells like a dead rat dipped in sewage. Sweet.

My Next Quilt…

I’m looking forward to starting a new quilt for my own bed. My husband asked for our own Diamonds in the Deep quilt – how could I say no? These are my two main fabrics:

Fabric from the Washi Plus line by Ruby Star Society by Moda Fabrics. To be used in my next Diamonds in the Deep quilt.

And this is the zesty binding fabric that brings me a lot of joy:

All three fabrics are Ruby Star Society by Moda Fabrics, from Rashida Coleman Hale’s line called Washi Plus.

I’ll be blogging all my tips and tricks for this quilt pattern as I go along. So if you’d like to join me and sew your own Diamonds in the Deep, be sure to pick up the pattern today (use the code RIBBONS and save 25%).

That’s all from me

I hope you had as good a weekend as possible and that you took some time to rest and recharge. Time away from the news cycle is necessary for long-term survival. I hope you’re able to find some joy in small things from time to time to remind you of why we persevere.

Take care and until next time, happy sewing,

Kirsty x

    • Thanks Bernie, we love the birdcam too. Especially because the North American birds are exotic to us! Those bright colours in the snow are gorgeous.
