Rolling into Easter with Bonjour Quilts

Well, here we are in the last week of March, rolling toward the Easter weekend.

I was hoping to have this update done on the weekend but it has just been rain, rain, rain here in my part of Australia. (I wanted to get some progress photos in good sunshine, hence the delay.) But seeing as the forecast is for rain until after Easter I figured LED light photos would have to do. Please do use your imagination to picture soft filtered, Queensland light shining through my windows!

What I’ve been working on…

More Bear Paw blocks (which I keep accidentally calling Bear Claws for some reason). These guys are really making me smile, in both good and bad light!

A selection of Bear Paw quilt blocks made from a white fabric (the bear paws), a navy background fabric, and scraps for the paw pads. The scrappy paw pads have been made in the shape of a heart, and make this the perfect block for a baby quilt.

I love the little heart paw pads and without planning I seem to have made them in nice Spring colours (for all my Northern Hemisphere readers). I’m always a big fan of a navy background fabric too – makes those colours pop.

This pattern is now done and I just need to get a wriggle on and finish the samples so I have something to put on the cover!

Around the Internets

Here’s a great blog post over on the Modern Quilt Guild’s website showing all the QuiltCon 2024 winners. Such a great collection of quilts (many with important messages).

If you’re looking for an adorable last-minute Easter sewing project, check out Stephanie’s very cute fabric bunny basket PDF over at Patch and Dot. (Steph has an awesome blog/newsletter.)

And even though this bunny is technically a December project, it could very easily become a sweet Easter/Spring stuffed toy.

This Instagram account shows some innovative embroidery work – lots of colours, techniques and unusual add-ons to see.

Talk about crafty as a fox, check out this artist’s repurposing of rubbish into something amazing (2 min Youtube video).

Reader Quilts

All these lovely quilts were made with Bonjour Quilts patterns and were spotted in the wild on Instagram. If you have a completed quilt, quilt top or quilt block from one of my quilt patterns or tutorials, please let me know! (Email in a photo or tag me on Facebook/Instagram.)

Sarah has put her scrap pile to work and created 9 gorgeous Scrap Magnet blocks. This is going to be a fantastic quilt!

A set of Scrap Magnet quilt blocks sewn by by Sarah with a quilt pattern from Bonjour Quilts. The quilt pattern is called Scrap Magnet and makes great use of small square and strip scraps. Sarah has used a gorgeous array of colours and some of the quilt blocks feature fussy cutting, which can be used to great impact with this quilt pattern.

Gina has sewn a Triangle Trove quilt in dreamy colours. And her custom quilting is perfection (pop over to the post to see close up of the quilting).

Liz whipped up a super Go West quilt for her son to use at college, it’s a beauty!

A Go West twin size quilt sewn by Liz with a quilt pattern from Bonjour Quilts. The quilt pattern is called Go West and has a southwestern, modern midwest aesthetic. Liz's wonderful fabric choices have made this pattern really shine, and it has a very patriotic feel. The Go West quilt pattern has instructions for a baby, throw and twin size quilt.

Cats’ Corner

It’s been a wet, dreary fortnight so I’ve had to go back through my archives from Jan/Feb to find some decent photos. Luckily there is no shortage of photos of cats chilling around this house. I hope Tigger (orange) and Lulu (brown) give you a smile and perhaps the idea to take a nap. :)

A brown burmese and an orange burmese cat curled up on a grey cat bed together. They are each curled up tight in a ball and are positioned such that they look like a figure 8 together.

That’s it for this update, my friends. I hope there’s a little more sunshine where you are, and if not, at least it’s great quilting weather!

Take care,

Kirsty x
