Hello, hello – welcome back to Bonjour Quilts! Grab a cuppa and let’s take a look at what’s going on around my sewing room.
What I’m sewing…
Just finishing up the second sample for my next pattern, hurrah!
The quilt pattern will be called Bottomless Bear Paws and it will be available next week (so keep an eye out for an email then, if you’re getting the newsletter – if you aren’t, sign up here!)
Cats sold separately. (And just a heads up that they’re terrible at basting, which isn’t mentioned anywhere in the small print.)
Much like a bottomless cup of coffee, Bottomless Bear Paws will give you bear paws for days! As I’ve mentioned previously, it will have 3 block sizes, 5 different quilt sizes (baby to king) and the option to have a square bear paw pad or a cute little heart.
Around the Interwebs…
If you haven’t already seen it, there was a lovely article in the New Yorker on why quilting is so good at getting us through hard times.
Wow, to say I learned a lot from this 9 minute video is an understatement! A very interesting and concise run through how some of the world’s most expensive fabrics are made (one I’d never even heard of).
I loved this short Instagram video showing how to add some embroidered flair to a denim jeans repair. I would also do this to a non-damaged pair of jeans because it looks so good.
Reader Quilts…
A mix of some popular past quilts and a couple of new ones. It’s always so good to see what you all get up to with Bonjour Quilts patterns, so keep sending them in! Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram.
Rebecca sewed up a lovely version of Diamonds in the Deep – she adapted the pattern to give a square quilt. I love the two fabrics she chose from Charley Harper’s End Papers fabrics; they look fantastic together.
Vanessa used this Scrap Fish Block tutorial to create an adorable baby quilt.
Betsy sewed up this gorgeous version of the Triangle Falls quilt pattern in Kona solids.
This reminds me of the time Cheryl took the Triangle Falls pattern and pared it down to just four fabrics – what a striking and different look it gives the same pattern!
And finally, if you’re looking to scrap bust a rainbow’s worth of scraps, then check out Chris‘ version of the Scrappy Lattice quilt pattern. This pattern looks great with a constrained colour palette, or the whole rainbow!
Cats’ Corner…
Just a little fun to finish up! It’s been another wet week here in our region of Queensland – I think everyone is hanging out to see some sunshine (and get some laundry dry). Lulu feels the best way to make a rainy week pass is just to snooze.
Tigger doesn’t look impressed to begin with…
But then he comes around to her way of thinking.
Not a bad idea for us humans, too (but I chose to blog and sew more than I snoozed).
I hope you’re handling whatever weather your part of the world is dishing up at the moment, as well as taking some time for yourself to quilt.
All the best, and I’ll see you again soon for the new quilt pattern, Bottomless Bear Paws!

I love seeing all the quilts! I’m working on my own scrappy lattice quilt but I made it into a large tree for my daughter. I just figured out all the math for fabric amounts and will be shopping soon. Love seeing the cats as well.
That sounds so cool, Amy – please do show if off to us when you’re done, I’d love to see what it looks like!
Great article on why quilting is therapeutic and video on the expensive fabrics! Thanks for posting them!
I’m so glad you enjoyed them, Marianne!
When I die I’m coming back as a cat! LOVING the variations of all the quilt patterns! I’m doing the Triangle Falls now and it’s so fun AND easy! Thanks!!!!!

Me too, Joan, me too. What a life.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying Triangle Falls – I must admit when I looked at the two in the blog post again I thought boy I need to make another one of these!
The article was from the New Yorker, not the New York Times, but thanks for pointing us to it..
Thanks…it’s updated now.
I always love to see what you’ve been up to! Cheers!
Thank you, Sandy!
I always enjoy your blogs Kirsty! Thanks for sharing the article from the New York Times. It certainly gives insight into why we quilt when we need to calm our minds. It’s fun to hear a little about your life in Australia too.
It was a really good article – it put into words what I think a lot of us feel. x x
Wow, Kirsty! Not only are your designs very approachable, but I can also hear your voice in your writing. It has really brought me some joy this morning where I am looking at snow on the ground where there should be daffodils!
Well that makes me so happy to hear, Nan. Fingers crossed those daffodils will be along any day now!
I am so excited for the new pattern. I have always wanted to make a bear paw quilt and I think this will be perfect. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us. ☺️
Thank you, Rheanna, I hope you enjoy Bottomless Bear Paw!

Love to read your blogs! Just like hearing from a friend. And your two kitties are so cute. Thanks Kirsty!
Thank you, Rosalie! :)
