Weekend Sewing, Your Quilts and 2 Free Quilt Patterns

Hello, hello, welcome to the blog! Another weekend has come around; let’s see what’s been going on here at Bonjour Quilts.

If you’re new to the blog and would like to receive an email whenever it’s updated, put your details in below.

    Two Free Quilt Patterns

(What a great heading!) The Layer Cake Lily quilt pattern is now available over at the Fat Quarter Shop!

And if you missed seeing the version I sewed, you can read all about it in my Layer Cake Lily blog post.

The Layer Cake Lily quilt by the Fat Quarter Shop. This is a free quilt pattern by the Fat Quarter Shop, with instructions for 3 sizes: small throw, large throw and twin. This version is the small throw and it was made by Kirsty of Bonjour Quilts. The lilies are made from two layer cakes by Rashida Coleman-Hale, for Ruby Star Society by Moda. The layer cakes are from the Pivot and Pixel fabric lines. The background is a lovely deep navy with a hint of green - it's called Speckled in Teal.

Here’s another awesome quilt pattern offered by Stephanie over at her blog Patch + Dot; it’s called Flower Power. You can get this pattern for free when you sign up for Steph’s newsletter, which I have been reading since 2018!

    Around the Interwebs…

If you’d like to sew up some minimalist home decor items, try these impressive looking rope bowls.

This thread artist creates beautiful embroidery, as does this American artist.

If you like modern florals then you’ll love this artist’s Instagram account. So much colour; a feast for the eyes!

I enjoyed looking at all these fancy examples of dress sleeves throughout fashion history.

Tickets for Quilt Festival (in Texas) are now available!

    Reader Quilts…

I always love to see quilts you’ve made from Bonjour Quilts patterns so please keep sending them in! Either email (Kirsty at BonjourQuilts dotcom), or tag me on Facebook or Instagram. Here are some oldies but goodies for your inspiration.

Here’s a lovely Slip Stitch quilt sewn up by Kathleen:

And don’t forget this lovely olive green version by Kelley:

This quilt pattern is a good one for showing off a line of fabrics or any collection that you'd like to give equal showing to. The Slip Stitch quilt pattern PDF can be bought at Bonjour Quilts.

Susan used the Union Jack Cushion tutorial to create this beauty:

Angie sewed this fun and vibrant baby quilt for a friend, using the When You Wish baby mat tutorial:

And here’s Victoria’s version of the same pattern, in a completely different style. I love how this pattern works with so many colour palettes.

Victoria sewed up this elegant version of the When You Wish baby mat tutorial by Bonjour Quilts. She has used a classy mix of navy, low volume and mint fabrics.

    Chez Bonjour…

It’s been fairly low-key around these parts this week – Covid boosters and some intense house cleaning (well overdue). But things will pick up this weekend as our eldest comes home for a break from uni, yay!

Our local Sunshine Coast beach looked broody early in the week:

Rain clouds over the ocean and beach at Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Australia.

And the cats are still sleepy.

An orange and a brown Burmese cat snuggling together on a grey cat bed. The orange cat is using the brown cat as a pillow, while she is sleeping on her back.
An orange Burmese cat relaxing on a quilt on an armchair. He is sitting in the sun, enjoying the warmth, with his eyes closed and his paws tucked up underneath him.

    Have a great weekend

Here’s to some weekend sewing! I hope you get the chance to make something this weekend, whether at your machine or slow stitching by hand. It beats cleaning the house!

Until next time, all the best,

    Kirsty x

      1. I realize ads help make your website more economical, but,,,, in my opinion there is getting to be too many. Takes away from the enjoyment of looking at the quilts .

        • Hi Margaret, I really don’t like having ads on the blog either. Unfortunately people want the content (which takes many hours to collate) for free. The only way I can do that is to have the ad company pay for the costs. I could move it to Substack and have it ad-free, and charge readers a monthly fee for access, but I doubt enough people would sign up. There’s an expectation that it should all be free. I’m just trying to keep this as a viable job because if I can’t get paid then I’m not going to be able to keep it going.

          Thanks for airing your concerns.
          All the best,
          Kirsty
